Every Time It Rains

It's been a rainy year, this year, they say
But I can't say I mind
The echo of the rain drops, the thunder
The only peace I find

I thank God for the old copper wires
In this West Texas town
Because every time a cloud bursts
It shuts that damn phone down
No one can call to ask how
I'm dealing with the pain
Because the phone stops ringing
Every time it rains

their paths are paved with good intentions
They can't see how much it hurts
I moved out here to get away from the calls
So I'm praying for those cloud bursts

I thank God for the old copper wires
In this West Texas town
Because every time a cloud bursts
It shuts that damn phone down
No one can call to ask how
I'm dealing with the pain
Because the phone stops ringing
Every time it rains

Clouds growing black, to the west, this evening
No I can't say I mind
Can't wait to feel the raindrops, see the lightening
Who knew a storm could be so kind?

I thank God for the old copper wires
In this West Texas town
Because every time a cloud bursts
It shuts that damn phone down
No one can call to ask how
I'm dealing with the pain
Because the phone stops ringing
Every time it rains
